What are Group X and Group Y?
There are two main categories in which the Indian Air Force hires airmen :
Group X (Technical Trades): These occupations include managing electronic equipment, maintaining airplanes, operating radar, and doing other technical tasks.
Examples of trades include mechanical system fitters, electrical fitters, electronics fitters, and aircraft fitters.
Administrative, medical assistant, logistical, and other ground support jobs are in Group Y (Non-Technical Trades).
Examples of occupations include ground training instructor, administrative assistant, accounts assistant, and medical assistant.
Eligibility Criteria :
Candidate must meet the below criteria as per the group :
Educational Qualification | Group X – 10+2 with Mathematics, Physics, and English with minimum 50% marks, or a 3-year diploma in engineering (any stream) with 50% marks. Selection Process :
Stage 1- Online Test
Group X: Questions from English, Physics, and Mathematics – 70 marks
Group Y: Questions from English, Reasoning & General Awareness – 50 marks
Group X & Y (Both): Combined paper – 100 marks
Exam wi8ll be of 60-85 minutes depending on group and is essential for shortlisting.
Stage 2- Physical Test
In this stage candidate must be able to run 1.6 km in 6.5 minutes, 10 push-ups, 10 sit-ups, 20 squats. This is also essential for shortlisting.
Stage 3- Adaptability Test I & II
This test is essential to check the adaptability of candidate in military lifestyle .
Stage 4- Medical Examination
This is conducted as per the instruction laid by Indian Air Force.
Salary and Benefits :
Group X is offered with Rs. 33,100 per month (including allowances) whereas group Y is offered with Rs. 26,900 per month (including allowances) . Meanwhile both the groups are offered with additional perks include free medical, subsidized housing, travel concessions, and excellent post-retirement benefits.
